A child and grandchild of Holocaust survivors, Karen Glinert Carlson grew in Chicago in a “culture of silence,” knowing next to nothing about her family’s past. During a visit to Ulm in 2018, she discovered a connection: Albert Einstein had helped her family escape Nazi Germany through his personal network and financial support. This revelation changed her life. Tracing her family’s history took her across continents, where she uncovered not only remarkable stories of rescue and survival but also a deeper understanding of her own identity.
